Wednesday’s are what I call my make days. When you work a day job and have a family, it’s hard to fit in your hobbies and personal interests in a way it doesn’t add in unnecessary stress or take away from other obligations and family time. But on Wednesday’s I have a few hours to myself […]
Edibles
“May our hearts overcome our appetites” – Unknown
Peace begins on our plate. Why fill our bodies with suffering and death when we can fuel them with the endless healing plant foods nature provides for us right from the earth? There’s a reason plant foods are so beautiful in their natural state. Although veganism is not a diet but a social justice movement, the plant-based diet is the ONLY diet scientifically proven to prevent, treat, and in many cases reverse, heart disease and the other top 15 killer diseases in the US. I encourage you to watch the non-graphic Forks Over Knives, Food Matters, soon to be released What The Health, and Cowspiracy, or read How Not To Die by Dr. Michael Greger, to find out why it’s in our own best interest to eat plant-exclusively. Veganism is a win-win for the animals, our planet, and ourselves. The only thing you’ll be giving up is the cruelty.
Food Inspo: Tomato Bisque Bread Bowls [link to recipe]
So I made bread for the first time. While this may not be impressive to some, I’m slowly getting over my fear of flour and water. Don’t ask, I can’t really explain it, but it’s real. When I saw this recipe on my Facebook feed for Always Autumn’s Homemade Artisan Bread “Easiest Bread Recipe Ever!” […]
Chocolate Milk 3 Ways – Nut & Refined Sugar Free
One wouldn’t know this by necessarily looking at me, but I work out and lift heavy weights with the help of a trainer who has 0% body fat and way more muscle groups than I knew existed. I think he’s incapable of breaking a sweat and I’m pretty sure if I peeled his skin back […]
Out of Sync Appetite
My favorite mental wealth professional used to marvel at my deep understanding of complicated relationship issues and the workings (and failings) of human behavior on a logical level but he was always quick to follow it up with “but you just fall apart when it comes to applying it emotionally.” We spent most of our […]
Food Inspo: Biscuits and Gravy
I’ve always been a sweets-for-breakfast person, which I blame being raised on chocolate cake and brownies for breakfast or the sugariest cereals that only passed for cereal based on their location in the grocery store. I recall, very clearly, going through an ice cream cone for breakfast phase in 5th grade. I only remember time […]
Food Inspo: Double Chocolate Chip Brownie Doughnuts [link to recipe]
If you’ve been paying attention to the food blogging world, I’m sure you’re familiar with Plant Philosophy (formerly known as Plant Strong Vegan). I’ve always been drawn to Margaret’s recipes as I felt she spoke my food language. Often relying on whole foods and natural ingredients to sweeten and color her approachable creations, she was […]
Tofu Ricotta Cheese Lasagna
Growing up in an Italian household pasta was a diet staple, always served with a slow simmered homemade sauce. I knew I was really in for a special treat when I saw Mom’s lasagna go into the oven. I wish I could say I carried on the tradition of a Sunday sauce that simmered on […]
Strawberry Coconut Cream Syrup
I recently completed a somewhat accidental 10 day sugar-free stint. When I say sugar-free, I don’t just mean the white stuff, that is already a pretty rare occurrence in my life these days. I mean any sweetener of any kind aside from whole fruit. No maple syrup. No rice bran syrup. No coconut sugar or […]
Ruby Red Hibiscus Tea
No matter how trite or cliche it may be, Valentine’s Day comes around every year. Regardless of our current relationship status, it can give us that little nudge to celebrate the love in our lives just a little more than we do any other day of the year. We celebrated this year with a brunch […]
Key Lime Pie Smoothie
I explained how my love for key-lime anything began when I introduced my mini key lime pies. I would have some form of key lime pie at least once a day if I could. I can’t eat pie everyday though, that would be obscene! But whaat iiifff, that pie was in green smoothie form? LOOP […]
