This week brought another stellar selection of produce in the Relay Foods Bounty Share. While I appreciate all produce equally for the unique nutritional profile they bring, there’s something uniquely special about each bounty. This week we enjoyed beautiful blueberries and perfectly ripe strawberries. I typically stick to frozen strawberries since grocery store selections leave me disappointed […]

“May our hearts overcome our appetites” – Unknown
Peace begins on our plate. Why fill our bodies with suffering and death when we can fuel them with the endless healing plant foods nature provides for us right from the earth? There’s a reason plant foods are so beautiful in their natural state. Although veganism is not a diet but a social justice movement, the plant-based diet is the ONLY diet scientifically proven to prevent, treat, and in many cases reverse, heart disease and the other top 15 killer diseases in the US. I encourage you to watch the non-graphic Forks Over Knives, Food Matters, soon to be released What The Health, and Cowspiracy, or read How Not To Die by Dr. Michael Greger, to find out why it’s in our own best interest to eat plant-exclusively. Veganism is a win-win for the animals, our planet, and ourselves. The only thing you’ll be giving up is the cruelty.
Strawberry Shortcake Smoothie
For a good portion out of the year, I’m relying on frozen berries for my smoothies. In Baltimore, our local fruit season is short lived, one can only eat so many apples, says the apple lover. So when strawberry season rolls around, it’s adamn good day. I received the most wonderful strawberries in my Relay […]
The Return of the Relay Foods Spring Bounty Share
The version of me that exists in my head is one where I can spend a week on a tropical island and come back rejuvenated and ready to tackle any task at hand. I’ll immediately put away the suitcases upon my arrival right before heading out to the local market to replenish our stockpile of […]
Easy Way To Peel A Mango + Social Media Haters
I recently came across someone sharing a way for peeling a mango and my world was turned upside down. As much as I love mango, my detest for peeling and slicing them was so much of a deterrent for me that I ate them much less than I would like. Mango is Julian’s favorite fruit and […]
Chai Black Rice Pudding – Naturally Refined Sugar-Free
I was drinking a big jug of my chicory chai latte that I had chilled and I was instantly transported back to my childhood neighborhood, Country Club Hills, in the suburbs of Chicago. I took a moment to remember the summers when my Grandmother would come stay for a month and spend the days with […]
Chicory Chai Latte – Naturally Caffeine and Refined Sugar Free
There were two times in my life when I took myself off of caffeine and experienced full-fledged caffeine withdrawal. The first was when I decided to go vegan. Up til then, my life was dependent upon my morning coffee with one tablespoon of raw sugar and a whole lotta half & half. Even though I […]
Off the Beaten Path: A Feminist Cafe
Veganism has transformed my life in endless ways beyond the eschewing of animal exploitation. Although there is no guarantee veganism will cure someone of their selfish and exploitative ways, as often proven in the Animal Rights community that is rife with racism and sexism, for many of us, it’s only the rebirth of our compassionate, more awake […]
Dining Out In Baltimore
One thing I’ve yet to cover, of all things, is where to eat in Baltimore when visiting or when you just can’t be bothered to clean another dish. I’ve mentioned my personal struggle with Baltimore in general before so my opinions on the city are admittedly often laced with frustration and lacking in Baltimore pride. But when […]
Food Inspo: Portable Tex-Mex Salad with Spicy Cilantro Dressing
When you need a portable salad but don’t want to feast on soggy leaves, layer them in a jar with the dressing on the bottom, then the hardy items like your proteins such as beans or tofu, then the sturdier vegetables such as bell peppers and onions, and finish off with your delicate greens. […]
Vegan Sundried Tomato Alfredo
Have you tried cauliflower alfredo yet? It’s a light take on the rich and decadent sauce and it’s a breeze to bring together with a blender. This is a take on that but with the deep and complex flavors of sundried tomatoes. Simple, delicious, and it won’t leave you regretting life. This recipe is much lower […]
